80 KM/H LIMIT
The brain teaser of update
Pay attention to the age of your system
In theory, it should be possible to update your GPS, but it can be complicated,
or even impossible, if it is a very old case.
This is the case, for example, for the first TomTom or the Coyote brand warning devices.
The latter tells us that the memory of the Mini Coyote Plus and Coyote Touch (launched in 2010 and 2012)
is insufficient for an update. But the brand specified that the speed limit
would be correct for danger alerts, so as not to mislead users.
TomTom confirmed that a free update (for most of their devices) would be available
on the website in late June.
This will enable those who leave at the beginning of July to benefit from a compliant housing for 98 to 99% of the roads.
On the other hand, for a system embedded in the car, it is less obvious.
For example, Renault does not wish to communicate on the subject and our two visits to dealerships have not been
reassuring: no salesman was able to answer us on the problem of the updates.
Other manufacturers, like Ford or Volkswagen, specify that an update will be available for download
within the next few months.
