I know you're a strong advocate of these Chilly.

    I'm too thinking of using:-
    News server: Red Orb News
    Newsreader: Alt.Binz
    Indexing site: NZBMatrix or Binsearch

Have other got recommendations for alternative NZB's?

    What about uploading....how's that done?

PS I suppose we could break down the maps to under 7Mb pieces & attach here but would the site then get blasted by TT for actually hosting these (as iptram were)

I have only 1 concern. It could be a catch 22 situation.
Uploaders will not pay for and use this without the members backing and using it.
Memebers will not pay for this if Uploaders are not using/supporting it.
Who will be the first, and how well will it be supported?

I am all in favour of this system but think we need to have some form of vote.

Maybe, just maybe, this site could subscribe to one of these Newsgroup things and allow "paid members" direct access to it via a special portal for uploading & downloading so the freeloaders/leeches don't get access? Jst a thought to be going on with.

Dave asked bout uploading, most all readers have the upload
component built in. I've never fancied them. Most all use
    the PP app.

    To upload files, I use powerpost.[AKA PowerPost-A&A]

There's several versions, but all do the same thing = free

Pic below shows the proggie loaded up with files: you'll see confirmation upload was success

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    -----------------------------------------------
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

So lets do a quick walk thru: The files I uploaded [picture above] begins the process ......
After i've done my part uploading those files ...I can now alert you Guys , that they are available
But you can always search for whatever ya want.. Movies-games-app......all are available vis usenet

Sooo......let's pretend were looking for this particular map.
Try and follow the simple steps....
I want the new United States map - United States 2GB 880.3810- so i'm gonna use one of many search sites

-you'll see the create NZB check box- thats how ya get yer much needed file. NOTE: the NZB can be also called
a shortcut. Meaning , if I just sent you that NZB file, you'd have to do nothing but drag it into your reader.

If was wasn't sharing the file with anyone....i'd select open....and my newsreader would auto open and start downloading it
The NZB files are kinda like a shell , which auto integrates with most decent readers

I enter the map name that i'm looking for in the "search" box.. and I see the files I need

I select to make NZB and save it. I can then rar it up and post for the public.
I can also just dbl click it make my reader to begin the actual download

Now I drag the NZB into the newsreader field

    and automattically....the files all appear

The newsreader does all the work and you've gotcha..... what you were after.

    Why Usenet ?

Nothings faster > nothings safer > files never get deleted

And what files go up.....stay there , untouched for years

Usenet is older than the internet......TRUE

Old farts "like me" have NEVER used any other file sharing type system.
In the "smart" circles......using P2P/torrents and all the other kinda file
sharing sites have always been consider'd juvenile behavior.

If you added ALL the P2P files + ALL the torrents and every other kinda
file share......wouldn't even be 1/1000th the content of usenet.

MONEY ? yeah, you're gonna have to cough up a tenner per month.
There is NO way around the server fee. You cannot share your server
status. You'll be dropped within minutes.

Nothings faster > nothings safer > files never get deleted = $10 is the deal of the century

Split .rar files have grown big and bigger. Typically, if the app/movie/game is larger than a gig or so....i'll do 100MB parts.
But.....there really is no set policy , and file size can be pretty much whatever the uploader chooses.

BTW: if anyone notices .PAR files ? Those are simple created files that serve as a repair function. No more
dealing with cyclic redundancy check [crc] errors. EXAMPLE: if an upload messes up and some bytes fall off ,
the damaged files can easily be repaired with parity [AKA .Par files] files. It totally makes even the
huge uploads safe just in case something goes amuck. QuickPar is the app we use and you can view
what they look like in the first pic [the uploading pic] . You'll see [what they look like] the files beginning with Vol.0001-0012.Par.
All those Par files are a redundant compressed mirror of the existing upload.Nothing but a drop and drag procedure ,
and dead simple to operate. It can be an overkill procedure....but gives leechers an insurance plan just in
case their newsgroup server gets all knackered up.

I can assure you, there's no shortages of up-loaders.

Pre'ing > Racing is still active , and the ego's of most groups are still quite competitive who's clocking
releases first. So you got many groups getting their stuff uploaded to usenet to get that recognition.

Movies/Games/Apps are leechers number one desired files. You'll find 99% of all releases on usenet within
24-36 hours of the pre. [sometimes sooner]

GPS files are found on alt.binaries.pocketpc.gps primarily......but can be uploaded
to any of the 75,000+ different groups. Most uploaders want their stuff seen and found,
so it's not much of a hide and seek.

Why would an uploader pay ?????? Because while he's uploading something he just got,
he's also downloading the newest Chuck Norris movie in Blu-Ray. In many cases.....the
download speed is much greater in usenet , than offered with the "release groups" affil sites.

I've never had an internet connection without a direct link with usenet. To me and millions
of others.....having a usenet account is hand-n-hand with the ISP's importance.

I think allot of you don't realize how populated usenet is. MILLIONS of world-wide people
are active daily in usenet. This is not a new way to download....actually, it WAS the first means
    of downloading.

Just a thought: if you're just now boarding this train? The rest of the passengers have been seated
for years , and don't have a clue who Megaupload is.
