reading all this made me try the truck map from corneo64 and it was such a difference from trying to download with jdownloader, apart from the speed and the whole thing was complete without crc errors etc made a massive difference, i dont have a great deal of download capacity from my isp and when i have to download the same file over and over again even when the original uploader says file fixed aqnd its still damaged it soon eats into my download allowance.
I used grabit and the free account from xsusenet but found the speed just to slow so i decided on one of the 14 day "free trials" and boy what a change it made no captchas no crc errors grabit even unrared all the files after the download.
The only issue i see is that will people who only need 1 map every 6 months will they be prepared to pay for a private link and then pay for the server use.

earlier someone posted that they did not want to be commited to a long term contract with a server provider, you dont have to be because most of the suppliers i have looked at all offer monthly deals with quick cancellation available so you dont have to be commited to any longer than the 1 month you signed for.

I purchased 100gig from blocknews for a tenner, which only expires when the 100gig is used up. No commitments or time limits, perfect for what I want.

Hi Shaun, I too use virgin.media as my provider (on ADSL)
Can you do us a write-up as to how to utilise this as if it's not too difficult I may even be converted myself?

Remember I know a bit about TT's but bugger-all about anything else so in simple terms please

i use xsusenet as well , but you can pay them per month
that is only €7.- which is not much for a map
i paid them on-line , so i can start at full speed immediately
i just skip the months i dont need it , and pay when i want to DL a map or other big file
i have put both free and paid xsusenet server in the list , so i can easily switch when i want

hope this be of any help for anyone

Hi Biggerdave, you need the server name, a user name and a password from your server provider, then download grabit and during the installation it will ask you for the info and thats it after the install grabit opens and if the file you want to download has a NZB file you click on import nzb in brabit, grabit then searches for the files and loads then into the download window and starts downloading, it also decompresses the rars and repairs any bad ones, before you start downloading its an idea to setup options for your default download folders and connections, and you are good to go, i chose grabit cos its free and for a newbie the gui is not to cluttered.

Hi Dave...some people prefer grabit but I prefer AltBinz, once set up I think its simpler. view my screen shots for my settings

once set up NZB files are associated with AltBinz and all you have to do is double click the NZB file which will open AltBinz and then all you do is hit connect.

I use Virgins free server news.virginmedia.com you dont need to enter a user name or password, you get full speed downloads but the NZB files are only valid for about 3 weeks, if you want longer retention time up to 500 days Ive also used lightningusenet.com they only charge 4.50 euros a monthor upto 50mb speeds.

for other stuff apart from maps, ie movies, music, apps etc I use NZBMatrix or merlins portal.

I hope I kept is simple

    Cheers

Hi Lazarus; Yeah, sorry I never came back again on this but thanks to those who helped me (you know who you are) I did manage to suss out how to search for and download from newsgroups although still to get my head round upping too.
I must admit that all the time the vast majority round the TT forums (incl me) are still using the normal sharing sites (which currently seem to be OK re the FBI etc) I can't see any major advantage (particularly/specifically for sharing TT maps)
    Maybe I'm just old skool!
