When using from smartphone or a tablet you can get live routes and changes as you travel through your inbuilt GPS and update speed cams and warnings. Free if you car has WiFi built in or via your phone data usage. Both of which in a way costs a bit.
You may get this through hacked versions, but I do not know as I have a subscription. Though if you really do not want to pay, just stop data usage and forget the live stuff and use just GPS to track your route. The hack certainly stops the limited route distance for free.
