Thanks a lot

If this was for Europe for example ,then your device would use NTU maps to enable the use of languages with cyrillic characters.
Later devices use both NTU & NT maps dependant of the languages of that region.
Hi all,
New member here and normally I'm pretty handy with following online tutorials - but what appears to be a simple process has me confused. I'd appreciate a little pointer in the right direction.
It seems that the preferred way to update maps for a device as old as my Nuvi is to download them to the SD card and leave the inbuilt map alone (North America 2015.10 Lower 49 is installed).
I downloaded the Eastern United States map (from this post ), ran gimgunlock on it and saved it to the SD card as \map\gmapsupp.img.
The Nuvi doesn't see the map when I try to access it under tools>settings>map>info. All it shows is the original 2015 map.
I have a feeling this is something simple but having played with it for over 2 hours, I can't see what the problem is.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
FP
Welcome to the forum.
Your garmindevice.xml show where everything goes, you are correct to use a SD card as you device does not have enough space.
Depending on the size of your SD card you can use ,N America or USA & Canada etc.
I would delete the 2015 gmapprom from the device just to tidy up

No issue with files over 2GB,just make sure your software is up to date
nuvi 255W, 265W, 285W 32 GB SD Class 2 to 10
Example of GE response to 2GB restricted devices
There are nuvi 255W & nuvi 265W for sale ,both with Full North America & Europe maps displayed installed .
My nuvi 255LM is offered N.America obviously with the use of an SD card.
A nuvi 255 & 265 NOT LM is offered N.America as a purchase
Not sure how this is helping ,you stated his device was unable to read files over 2GB's
As for my screenshots, they were in reply to your offer.
Let's hope our new member is able to sort his device out and give us feedback
I have a Garmin nuvi 40LM (North America). I want to add maps for another region. I copied the gmapsupp.img file to Garmin and Map folders on an sdcard but neither is recognized.
Is this the correct process?
Post #1 shows the location ,as does your own garmindevice.xml
FAT 32 Formatted SD card <32 GB
Garmin/JCV/xxxxxxxxxx.jcv
Map/gmapsupp.img

I don't have JCV files - what are they?
From garmindevice.xml, shows that gmapsupp.img should be in Garmin which it is.

You said
The path Garmin/Map is when you add a supplemental map to the device's internal storage.
On an SD card : The "Map" folder is in the root of the card NOT in the Garmin folder as per post #32
I moved your post to this thread as it explains what goes where including JCV files
