    Thank you very much FireFox58.
I had previously patched the firmware of my Garmin Drive 61 device to access its filesystem.
Can I then directly apply your new patch on top of that patch?

Also, I do not have a MicroSD card. Is there a way to apply your patch (steps 1-6) without using a MicroSD card.

Thanks again for your valuable help

Hi dear, I copy here my recent Post about your device ...

This is a custom SD flash kit only for HWID 2267 devices (Drive-DriveSmart40 & 50)
    Instructions:
    1. Download the RAR file from the Link attached then extract directly to a clean microSD formatted in FAT32 (best using WinRar to extract).
    2. If your device has a Firmware version lower than 5.70 all is okay, otherwise a firmware downgrade is advisable
You can download an older firmware release from here:

    3. Ensure the device is fully OFF (not in standby), insert the card in device and power on.
    4. "Loader" will appear on screen for some time and the device will boot up when the flash of patched firmware is complete.
The device can reboot itsself during the process.
    5. After the Patch is applied the device will be able to read Unlocked Maps.
In case of flashing of a new version of the Original Firmware the Patch must be repeated
    6. When the flash has completed remove the card, in its root will be a new file named 154.bin.
That's a backup of the device's non-volatile memory region and may save your device at a later date.
You would be best to keep a copy of it somewhere safe for as long as you have the device.

What you have done (access to \.System folder) is NON really a patch but a simple setting.
Applying this Patch you don't lose that funcionality

Pity NO, this Package is made for use with microSD card.
The other way involves to transform Patched Firmware in .rgn and loading on Device in Pre-Boot mode via Updater.exe, an almost complex operation for low skilled Users.
Anyway, a microSD costs few Euros and you can reuse it for addicltional Maps too.

First, thanks to all for the post. I was so happy to find it as I tried everything to get an unlocked map to be recognized by my DriveSmart 50 (a 2247 device?) but to no avail.

But now I believe I've followed all the directions exactly and cannot get my device to load or flash at boot up, even when I try to enter "pre-boot" mode by keeping my finger on the upper left corner of the screen. I can get the device to go to that mode WITHOUT the SD card inserted but not with it inserted. And I've done as directed by putting the 5 bin files and 1 txt file on the root of a clean, freshly formatted 32gb micro-SD. I assume I didn't need to put a "Farmin" folder on there with the files in it.

I do, in fact have version 5.70 software and firmware on my device but can't figure out how to "downgrade" to a lower version. I did download lower versions gcd files but can't figure out how to get them on my device. I thought about just doing a restore but I thought I'd reply to your post instead of making more work and more mess for myself.

Thanks for the HELP -- in advance!

Also, I did take the advice of installing the Garmin USB drivers but, even with that, Updater does not recognize my device after connecting it.

You've quoted the problem, it's in point 1 of the instructions "extract directly to a clean microSD" (my emphasis) which results in the other files being in a root directory "Garmin" on the card. If you have a US/EU DriveSmart 50 it's HWID is 2267 not 2247.
