Excuse me, but I am not sure how to make this update, could you send me a step by step guide how to do it? (unless it's just inserting the card while the device is off....).

Thanks for sending me the instructions, but I am not sure how am I supposed to "get the GarminDevice.xml file" on a SD card without any USB input or using my PC. Is it possible to copy and modify files on my GPS device without using an USB connection?

FireFox58 gave you the SD card kit so you can re-install the firmware via SD card.
Remove the SD card from the device and connect to a SD card reader connected to your PC,(use one of your other devices)unpack Nuvi 2xx7 2xx8 (1582) fw5.50.rar so you end up with only the Garmin folder with all its contents on the FAT32 formatted SD card
    .Then follow Firefox58's instructions

I have followed these steps and reinstalled the firmware through SD card properly step by step following your instructions but my Mac is still unable to connect with my GPS device. I suppose that there is a problem with the chip inside my device that should help the USB connect with the PC (even though charging the device works as it should. I have also dismantled the GPS to make sure if there is no problem with the USB psychically. I could send photos of my dismantled device if they were of any help. The USB port looks factory new - it isn't broken or even dirty in any way. Is that file that I've gotten when flashing ("BUP_154.bin") important or can I delete it now?
Also I have an additional question. Is it possible to get the "GarminDevice.xml" file without using USB so later I could update my GPS device with a SD card or am I doomed to cracking the updates and updating through SD card?

    Yes, you can.
Change list of Command in Update.txt present in the Package in folder X:\Garmin\Updater\1582
    from to
    del,0:/.System/gupdate.gcd
    rrgn,154,2:/BUP_154.bin
    xrgn,14,2:/Garmin/Updater/1582/0E.bin
    xrgn,127,2:/Garmin/Updater/1582/7F.bin
    reboot
    copy,0:/Garmin/GarminDevice.xml,2:/GarminDevice.xml

reinsert SD in Slot and reboot Device
You will find GarminDevice.xml in the root of SD

Thank you a lot! It actually has worked, the Garmin Express program has recognized my SD card as the GPS device and everything works properly. I ought to buy you a beer for helping me to update my Garmin device without USB : -bd :cygaro:

Only one thing bothers me - why in all update files (including these with maps) for my nuvi 2547 i have an actualization like this "Firmware Update for GTM60/70 version 2.60 - improved reception compatibility for devices supporting ARD DAB"

GMT60/70 is the GPS Receiver chip embedded in the Device, I suggest you to Update it

PS: Thanks for the "virtual" beer
