I would like to know if it is possible, with GmapTool, to join the img files into one map visible in Basecamp.

France Topo V5 is in two parts (North and South) and I would like to see the two maps in Basecamp.

I tried to do it with GmapTool, but there was an error :

You can't join the 2 Maps of Topo France, as the resulting File would be higher than 4 GB
You can't view the 2 Maps together in BaseCamp. the mistake is the FID of Maps.
Both have the same FID (7453), BaseCamp can load ONLY one FID at the time.
The Device, instead load in memory only the Tiles it needs depending by GPS Position

There is no solution, you can view ONLY one Map at the time

There are workarounds that can make an img containing two (or more) different FID:s but maybe it is not worth the effort...
This is the way I did it:
With the help of imgtool I changed the FID of south part to something other than 7453 (in my case 7454). A little tricky but it worked.
I splitted the two large img:s to "MapSource installation files" with the help of gmaptool. Installed them in two folders named TopoFranceN and TopoFranceS in the folder Garmin in the PC.
With typviewer I changed the FID in the typ file for the south map to 7454.
I installed the two maps by running the install.bat (as admin) generated by gmaptool.
I opened the south part in mapsource and selected a few tiles near the border between south and north, the opened the north part and selected a few part adjacent to the parts selected in the south part.
Then with mapsource send the map to an usb stick with a folder garmin on. This gives a file gmapsupp.img in the folder.
With gmaptool set the flag Ms to 0 (zero) in order to make the map readable to Basecamp.
Open basecamp and there the map crossing the "border" between south and north can be seen!
A drawback with splitting img with gmaptool is the you can loose some routing and searching possibilities but that is often not a big issue with a topo map.

I did not install the map in a gps but I have done similar things befor and it has worked with my gpsmap60 and 64.

Ther are other ways to do this but they are all rather cumbersome but if one is tempated by the challenge...

    Thanks for the explanation Smulan.

I have another problem with the Topo France V5.

I can create the files for use it with BaseCamp (Nord or South).

But in some places, the roads seem to appear twice.

Here, map is City Nav Europe 2020.20

Next, map is Topo v5, you can see the road 51 appear twice.

Next, map is the base map of BaseCamp

You can see, roads from the base map appear on Topo v5.
Strange, if anybody have an idea how to "delete" the base map in the topo map.

    Kind regards,
    Pilou

A few things you can test but I have not tested myself.
Topo maps are generally transparent (do not know why?) so with the help of the tools mentioned before change the mode to non transparent could maybe make some difference.
Maps have a priority, 1 is the lowest and 31 is the highest. That determines in what order the maps are shown at least in the gps and can be useful having a transparent "track map" that you want to be seen over another map i.e. You could change the priority of the topo map to 31 so that will be shown over the base map.
Do not know if this helps for mapsource or basecamp and in the gps it is possible to deselect the base map so it is a no problem.

    Hi Smulan,

    Thanks for your answer.

I am not sure to understand you perfectly, but I will try.

Strangely, the Topo map appear normally in MapSource, I mean without the roads from the base map.

Ah, I noticed that in the installation folder for basecamp there is a folder "Maps" where the basemap resides. Removing or renaming that map should solve the problem I suppose.

    Hello Smulan,

I removed the folder Global Application Basmap v2.gmap but the roads from the Base map are still there...

But I don't think it's a problem from the Base map.
I did the same work (Gmaptool) with other topo (Belgium, Germany) no problem with the base map.

I think you have to clear the TileCache of basecamp and check again, you will find these folder here

    BaseCamp
    AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp\TileCache

    MapSource
    AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\MapSource\TileCache
