I have a similar problem with my kenwood dnx4050bt I found if you change the main map name from gmapprom.img to gmapsupp.img it seems to work ok.

Hope this helps any kenwood users

Default Lost my "recent" trips on DNX571HD after update

I did backup the files just trying to figure out, when updating the sd card for my DNX571HD, I lost all recall of "recent" when testing it after update. What could/should I restore to make these recent trips come back? TY if anyone can spare a sec to help me here.

If Device made a software Reset after update the RECENT trips are unrecoverable.
These RECENT trip are normally stored in current.gpx located in \Garmin folder, you should always backup that file before update if you want retain settings

Hi and ty for your time here.. i did back up the entire /garmin contents but don't see any current.gpx file or folder at all. I also updated the firmware I wonder if that could have deleted it. Thx too, I will just go ahead and accept the inevitable and rebuild it as time goes on from scratch.

I'm not sure what the internal memory size is for that unit but I'm guessing it is only 2GB as is the case with many of the older DNX units. That woud be an issue if you are trying to update the internal map because the new maps are larger than 2GB so they wont fit.

Fortunately, it looks like the DNX5269BT has a front micro SD slot. That should allow you to run new maps straight from a larger micro SD card that you stick into the front micro SD slot. You probably need an 8GB or 16GB micro SD card as the full map from Europe is almost 4GB.

First thing you should probably do is make sure the Kenwood firmware is up to date for your particular DNX model:

Download an unlocked Europe map from

Check the sticky threads at the top as those generally contain the newest map available.

Format your micro SD card using Fat 32

Create a folder called Garmin on the root of the micro SD card

Copy the unlocked map of Europe you downloaded to the Garmin folder you just created.

If needed, change the name of the Europe map to gmapsupp.img The name given to maps running on internal memory is gmapprom.img while gmapsupp.img is the name of the map when running on an SD card. Since you are going to be running the map from the SD card it should therefore be named gmapsupp.img

If your DNX reciever supported junction view you would create a JCV sub folder inside the Garmin folder and place the JCV file in that folder. If your reciever supported traffic you would create a G2S sub folder in the Garmin folder and put the G2S file in that folder. If your receiver supported 3D buildings you would create a MAP sub folder in the Garmin folder and put the 3D file in it.

Once you have your micro SD card setup, all you need to do is take it out of the computer and stick it in the front micro SD slot of the DNX5260bt. You should then be running an updated full map from the micro SD card. If a new map comes out, it is as simple as copying that unlocked map to the SD card (as well as any JCV, G2S and 3D files if supported) and sticking the micro SD card back in the DNX5260bt.

    Default Kenwood 2019 HWID 3266

    @FireFox58

Can you please have a look at this GarminDevice.xml. It's a 2019 model. With a 2018 model that also has a Map folder, the NT Maps work. The NT maps are not displayed. Or does it have to be NTU Maps? However, "Unicode" is not to be found in the ... xml. I do not have this device and unfortunately I cannot try it out.
Which maps with the exact designation would work and where do they have to be copied.
    Many thanks in advance.

Telling us the model would help DNX *******
A little confusing "I do not have this device" so why are you asking "Which maps with the exact designation would work and where do they have to be copied"?

If you have the garmindevice.xml with the device ID ,just use it to download the original maps from using Garmin Express then you will be able to see if they are NT or NTU also it will show you how the files are arranged .

The attached garmindevice.xml shows a blend of files the SID files are old NTU versions .
