This is a program to change the startup splash logo screen for GPSMAP 66 series devices.
The splash image can be changed to any 240x400 bitmap file.

For recent versions, background images from several other GPSr models such as Colorado, Oregon & Alpha can also be used.

Full instructions are in a readme in the package. This version has been tested with firmware version 2.80 - 3.40 (edited Sept 2019)
    Cheers

Just dropped in to say I’ve tested this with the new firmware version 3.40 (and all versions leading up to it), and all is well.

Windows Defender is useful as the salt on the pudding.
I trust ONLY MalwareBytes, and MalwareByte does not detect anything dangerous.
That being said, what I wonder is: what is the use of changing the Spalsh Screen in a GPS?

    Hi,
There’s no trojan or virus, it’s a false trigger as you probably know, but that still seems no good if Win Defender is going to warn of it.
I don’t know what is making it suspicious, but I have found that if I compile it as a non-stand alone binary, then Win Defender is happy,
but that also means the program requires the user to install Microsoft C++ runtime package, which it didn’t need before with DLLs built in.
I suppose the latter option is still better than being identified as a trojan, so I’ll get to that.

For GPSMAP 66i, I was waiting for the question one day, but I wouldn’t be comfortable doing it without testing my own device, which is far from likely to happen.
When I wrote it the 66i didn’t exist yet.

The use of changing the splash screen, to put your own name on it, and fun, but not as useful as writing the program to do it.
For that you have to be able to validate the GCD file, pull it apart, modify it, and put it back together, and re-checksum all the parts.
That was useful when I wanted to downgrade my GPS (the internal GPS module) firmware, when the Garmin normally only lets you downgrade the device firmware.

PS. It does more, that people generally want to do, than any other single program here It all depends what you type into the keyboard.

This one should be ok. There’s a link at the end of the readme to Microsoft’s C++ runtime library download page.
    updated*** file link removed.

This is V10, and works with 66s/st, 66i, and 66sr. Tested with firmware version 10.20 for 66st, and the other two devices were tested with their current firmwares August 22.
