Hello
I downloaded " US & Canada (3.88 GB).rar" and copied the extracted gmapsupp file to my SD Card. The device does not read this file; the display was bank and this map did not show up in the Info section. I am using nuvi 1490 LT. Can you please help?
Thanks
Don't know why you say the display is blank but you can see the Info section.
What maps are on the device the gmapprom.img
On an SD card the gmapsupp.img goes in a folder called Map
SD card\Map\gmapsupp.img
SD card\Garmin\JCV\D9677020A.jcv
SD card\Garmin\JCV\D9678020A.jcv
File location information is shown in the garmidevice.xml
<Name>SupplementalMaps</Name><File>
<Specification><Identifier>IMG</Identifier>
</Specification><Location><Path>Map</Path>
<BaseName>gmapsupp</BaseName>
<FileExtension>img</FileExtension>
I had the gmapsupp.img file in the root folder on SD Card; I always had that file in root folder so far.
I moved it to \Map subfolder after reading your reply and it worked. The unit was defaulting to the original map of 2014.10
Thanks a lot.
Download and use to safely remove the 2014 map gmapprom.img all they are doing is wasting resources.
Is there a single map file that covers Canada, USA, and Mexico? I have a Chrysler 300 with the CPT13 headunit which includes a Garmin based gps map - I flashed 2023.10 no problem, but unfortunately it will not allow me to flash just the USA & Canada map of 2024 because it says I have CN North America 2023.10 All and the map I am trying to flash is CN North America NT 2024.10 US & Canada
I have same issue as above. Need the full NA map or a way to convert the NA GMAPPROM to a GMAPSUPP.
Thanks.
Edit : Actually - I think I now have the answer. I did some 'Googling' and found that you can just rename the GMAPPROM to GMAPSUPP - so issue resolved I hope. I haven't tried to load it yet, but....

I need a map for my Garmin 2820 Streetpilot that is 1.79gb or less for Kentucky and surrounding states. I tried to load City Navigator Lower 49 States SE but it said I need 150mb more space on the Garmin. I don't know how to remove some of the areas that I don't need such as Bahamas etc.

Download Gmap folder Unlocked For PC with MSI installer from Post #2 and use MapSource on your PC to create a custom map set that is 1.79gb or less for Kentucky and surrounding states. Once you have learnt this method you will be able to do this every update in the future.
These old devices used to come with a CD with MapSource & the Maps preinstalled on the 2GB internal storage ,now you just use Garmin Express to download the maps to your PC if you have a Life Time subscription.
