Same thing for me, I wanted to sell my Montana 610 when I read the Montana 700 specifications.
I'll keep it a little longer ;)

I have unlocked copies of Garmin Bluechart G2 HEU801X and G2 Vision VEU706L that both work fine with the Montana 700
Wonder why these work when all other Garmin maps (City Nav , Discoverer GB etc) don't ?
Maybe because of the Code Page of Maps. All the Maps you mentioned have a CP = 1252
If you try to use a Map with CP = 65001 (like NTU Maps for example) they don't work unless you patch the Firmware.
I suggest you one of the following:
1) Try to use Europe NT (obviously UnLocked) instead of Europe NTU
2) Try to change the Code Page of the Map (LBL filetype are the most important to change) with ImgTool
:wel
Pretty old map, but the "Unlocked" CN Europe NonNT 2009 map is working on a Montana 700.
Also the old MSDOS works great. However, this does not mean that it is still usable today.
I know, but i was testing some Garmin maps to see which maps are working. Non of the NT or NTU maps i tested were usable.
Yes, that is. Montana 700 doesn't read any NOT ufficial Maps.
The solution?
Nobody should buy Montana 700, after a while this feature will be removed by Garmin
:al:
Maps older ca. 2013/14 should work, because they did not have a digital signature yet.
At least they go on all devices with MSV from 2014 and unencrypted FW, so before launch around 2019.
