OK, I'm going to try the battery replacement.
I don't have much hope, because it warms up just on the other side, as if it wasn't the battery, so I'll see when I open it.
I will also try to connect it without the battery inserted, to see what happens.

Welcome to the forum, your device will need to be
As there are different HWID's for the nuvi 55 we need to know what your HWID is.Look in the Garmin folder for garmindevice.xml, open with notepad and tell us what the 4 digits are in red
The solution has been provided previously by FireFox68 for HWID 1697

Amazing information on this thread!
Was anyone able to patch the new Montana 3.50 firmware?
If so, can you leave a link with it?
Tnx in advance!

Glad you read it,you would have noticed the importance of knowing the HWID of the device to be Patched.
If it is 2299 as I suspect it is check out the Post by FireFox68 below
Montana 610/680 | 2299 | 350 | MAP: Yes | GMA: Yes | MSV: Weak | GVS: --- | File: Montana610_680_350.gcd

As kindly request from
This is a Patched Firmware (JNX + Unlocked Maps) for GPSMAP64s ver. 5.60
Since the GPSMAP64s (HWID: 1859) does not have the GSV and falls into category 2
MSV: Yes, GSV: ---
In this case the Patched Firmware guarantees the correct reading of Unlocked Maps, including NTU and TOPO Maps with CP 65001.
The Patched Firmware guarantees reading of BirdEyes JNX images too.
Be sure to remove All BirdEyes images eventually present on Device before apply Patch
BirdEyes images can be restored AFTER flashing new firmware
Also, in this case the "patched" Firmware can be loaded through the normal update procedure via WebUpdater
Changes made from version 5.50 to 5.60:
- Fixed potential issue with GPS+GLONASS
