You are probably talking about the Outdoor models, in fact on these models you can update the patched .gcd file directly via WebUpdater.
In road models with GSV protection this is not possible and the Patch must be installed using the procedure described in the Guide.
The alternative way, via Pre-Boot mode, is even more complicated and difficult

Yes, that's it but as I have no model other than the 66sr and the Drive 51 LMT (unpatched and no need since the cards are free for life) indeed I do not need to do these manipulations .

Hi. I have prepared a patched firmware for flashing via sd but it doesn't work. I have tried different memory cards and the result is the same, seems as the gps doesn't detect the firmare in the sd. Here is my info:
