I purchased a Drive 51, and called Garmin to ask the difference between the GTM 60 and GTM 36 traffic receivers, needed to get traffic without a cellphone (my cellphone doesn't have data). I was told the GTM 60 would be better. So I ordered one on ebay.
But when I plugged it into my Drive 51, a message popped up that the GPS can't receive digital traffic information. I called Garmin again, and was told I need the GTM 36, as the GTM 60 won't work with my GPS.
Now, that being said, I did receive a notice of a lane closed on my route.
Will the GTM 60 actually give me traffic information, even though it won't be using the HD signal? I don't know why it would, but, hey, I'm no expert.

Yes, I know. But Garmin support told me that the GTM 60 would work before they told me it wouldn't work.
I have fooled around with the GPS plugged in via the GTM 60. When I turn it on, a message pops up that this GPS is not compatible with digital traffic, and the traffic information may not be as good. Then the traffic box pops up, says "downloading traffic data. This may take a few minutes." And then the traffic data pops up.
I then turned on my cell phone to use the Garmin app. The information seemed the same as what the GPS had downloaded via the GTM 60.
So I believe the GTM 60 is providing traffic information.

The GTM60 is capable of receiving both Digital Radio and FM Radio traffic in NA. A similar device GTM70 receives both DAB & FM in EU. These devices will prioritize the digital information however if it's not available or usable by the GPSr device they will then receive and display the FM info. The latter is exactly the same as you would received from GTM36.
