The instructions need to be revised
- \\Download Attached File and extract in the root of an emty microSD\\ doesn't work at least in the root, did not tried in the Garmin folder!
Then I've tried to put in the .system folder, and now is looping the update! any suggestions to unbrick?
I've tried the GarminCure3, the updater have the obstacle 6.31 newer than 6.30 and the precious second it takes to select overwrite it's looping again , now it's stuck at the Garmin logo, and the Garmin updater doesn't even see it in the USB - COMA
I have applied succesfully this patch a lot of time.
Once extracted the contents of microSD should be:
Maybe something went wrong, I don't know what
You can try to set Firmware release to 6.32 before using with GarminCure3 and then remove all unwanted file from device
After Device is reborn you can retry, if you want ...
I know sometimes all goes wrong :(
The sucessive/loop flashing, have fried the unit. The boot process does not enable the device storage mode/neither reads the micro SD slot. Only Garmin logo and a black screen later
Before using strong way (I mean reformatting device with RMPrepUSB) try to reinsert microSD with Patched Firmware
microSD not working, neither USB recognizing, nor by Garmin Updater and also RMPrepUSB (if it can't see, can't reformat) It's a brick with a Garmin logo for some seconds now
I've recovered an Etrex 20x in the past, but this one as lost access to both USB/microSD (no options left) even the battery it's not reusable for the 1390 i also have (different conector - lower power)
last chance ...
- Download Attached File and extract in the root of an emty microSD
- Shutdown Device and insert microSD into the appropriate slot
- Switch On Device, should start Firmware Update automatically and Device Reboot itsself
The Package contains Bootloader, Full Firmware and both patches (JCV + Trip Planner).
I forced a firmware version 6.32 to avoid problems with flashing
Nope! Thank you for your effort anyway! Something went wrong in the Route planning update (The JCV update was OK) And the updating firmware loop fried the unit! As i've said, it not passes the Garmin logo, and no USB and no access

Bootlooping devices are very tricky to flash in preboot but persistence pays off. Nearly all Garmin devices that show a logo splash screen can attain preboot even momentarily unless the cause of the bootloop is from physical flash damage in which case it's HARD-bricked. A SOFT-bricking due only to a failed software update (provided an incorrect boot.bin/lrd.bin has not been flashed) can be corrected by flashing cure firmware in preboot. Success lies in being very quick, it's frustrating to do this a dozen times or more but worth the effort. Try this method:
1. Load the appropriate cure fw to Updater.exe
2. Select the radio button next to 'USB Device' and have Updater's GUI visible on your desktop leaving the mouse cursor over the 'OK' button
3. Plug a suitable 'known good' miniUSB cable directly into a REAR USB2 port of your PC (don't use a hub or USB3 port)
4. Ensure the nuvi is fully OFF, hold the power button down to force it off if necessary
5. Hold the top LH corner of the screen with your left thumb, using your right hand to plug the miniUSB plug into the nuvi's socket and watch the GUI closely
8. IMMEDIATELY you see the device details appear in the window next to 'USB Device' click 'OK' or just hit the Enter key of your PC keyboard
9. Keep holding the screen firmly until 'Software Loading' appears or until the flash finishes.
If it fails, start again. It may take many times to fluke it. If the device cannot attain preboot at all or has a faulty USB socket/connection then any flashing in preboot is impossible. You can test if it has preboot available by having Device Manager open and windows sounds enabled for device connection/disconnection. Hold the screen and plug in to PC. If it is entering preboot even for a second you will hear the ding da da ding connection sound followed by the device disconnect sound and between those sounds the nuvi will appear momentarily in Device Manager as "GARMIN Device".
Thank you very much!
The top LH trick made the difference, it made the unit visible as a USB device, and then the Garmin3 cure procedure was able to work! Unit is working again!
