Which Garmin model should I buy?
My Tomtom Go 530 is dying, so with the newer tomtom's being locked down in relation to cracked maps, I am considering a change of brand, but I must say that I know next to nothing about Garmin devices and have only used it back on my Nokia N95 many, many years ago.
As such, I have loads of questions;
1) Can all Garmin devices run hacked/cracked maps that are uploaded to this forum or are there certain ranges that I should look for?
2) If I buy a device that has lifetime maps/traffic for one region (e.g. the UK) can I also run a cracked North America map via an external SD card without forfeiting the free traffic/map updates when I am in the UK?
3) What model would people recommend (key features would be a 5" or bigger screen, SD card slot, or enough internal memory for both UK and North American maps, lane guidance, speed cameras)
4) Is it easy to add cracked speedcam information and can I use this on a 'genuine' map that I have got from Garmin via the lifetime updates offer?
Thank you all very much, in advance, for any help and suggestions that you offer

Yes and No... almost all garmin device can use unlocked maps... but there is some a few exceptions.
any way eg some 2xx7 device not works with "cra cked" maps
if you buy UK life time device you can use any other unlocked map with it if this devcie is not some special device....
You need read forums, there is not any one who is tested all devices and can give you 100% right answer.

Garmin Product Advice
No doubt this has been covered so pardon my asking again (I've hunted).
I have older Garmin devices for various uses. The newest Car Version I have is 255w (for the better half), I'm still happy with my street pilot.
I may want to update the 255w
Looking at possible updates there are, 2 Gig Map Limitations, firmware locks and NTU vs NT map conciderations.
Since I'm not looking to get an ad in the middle of an intersection, I'm shying away from the LTM (free lifetime map) models.
It seems like NT maps are the most supportable.
Are there any recommendations for a sweet spot that gets above the 2 gig map limit but still provides a reasonable degree of "support" for map updates?
Thanks for any thoughts

The is a great option able to use both NTU & NT maps, does not require patching to use unlocked maps, and is full of features.
All Garmin devices are limited to 4Gb .img file size, just some older devices have a 2Gb limit.
There are plenty on-line including Lifetime map updates ,this nice has Integrated Traffic too, for $30
There is no advertising "Pop ups" on any Garmin device I know of !Last edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 29th May 2022 at 10:21 AM.

Regarding some Garmin Nuvi device, I'd read a complaint from an owner about a pop up in the middle of a turn, but that was a very long time ago, still made me a bit wary.
Thanks Again!
