Converting img to gmap
Maps often come as img-files, what's the best pratice to convert these to gmap-folders that will install in basecamp? Prefferably, I'm after a way to do this on a mac, but I'm open for suggestions on a way to do it on windows or linux as well.
Also, I've read somewhere, probably in a comment somewhere, that converting from IMG to gmap could result in losing the search function. Could someone please explain under what circumstances this happends, and how to avoid it?kekkebenke Reviewed by kekkebenke on . Unfortunately you do lose full search functions if you reverse-engineer an image file. GmapTool invoking cGPSmapper or Map Toolkit (MapTk) can create a simple preview map which is installable, but it's NOT a gmap folder installation. This warning is from GMapTool's Help: "Unfortunately GMapTool is unable to convert a MDR file form mapset into a format acceptable by Mapsource. Do not bind this file to Mapsource, it will not work properly." Without MDR working search function is compromised. I don't know of any way to make an installable version from an image without losing search but if one exists I'd be very pleased to be proved wrong.
But the whole 'problem' is an illusion because BaseCamp can use even locked images to work with either on a media card or directly on the device. The old MapSource program can't do that, hence the relevance pre-BaseCamp of using a simple preview map in MapSource. Not very much point doing it today though.
