What's your retry time? I can see an attempted delivery at 15:46. I use Greylisting on my server:
Apr 3 15:46:29 box postfix/smtpd[104298]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from static.111.96.9.5.clients.your-server.de[5.9.96.111]: 450 4.2.0 <me@ravenstar68.co.uk>: Recipient address rejected: Greylisted, see from=<you@sb30.besthostingforums.com> to=<me@ravenstar68.co.uk> proto=ESMTP helo=<sb30.besthostingforums.com>
As of time of writing there's been no retry.
Edit - I can confirm that Greylisting is working as expected, I sent myself a test mail from my blueyonder to my ravenstar address and got the mail 15 minutes later (expected). Your server should have attempted a retry after getting the 450 error code.
I'd also point out that the reverse DNS for your mail server is wrong. So you're going to have trouble sending to some people anyway. It might be a good idea to amend that.
PTR doesn't effect mailing system and we have to use default arpa to support other sites on server not just GPSurl. Will diagnose mail server further :)
Sorry for inconvenience
I eventually got your mail through.
The server retried it 2 and a quarter hours later. Which is unusually long for a first retry attempt.
With regards to reverse DNS - I suggest you study best practice for an outbound mail service.
1. The server should identify itself with it's FQDN - yours does.
2. The FQDN resolves to the servers IP address - yours does,
3. The PTR record resolves back to the mail servers FQDN. This is where your server falls flat. The PTR record is a generic record
$ dig +short -x 5.9.96.111
static.111.96.9.5.clients.your-server.de.
While some receiving platforms will allow connections, others may raise spam scores or reject connections altogether, Virgin Media were definitely blocking servers where the PTR pointed at a generic record at one point.
Tim
Glad to hear you got the mail. Hope Dave sorted his issue too :)
Sadly still nothing my end! As I say, all other forums/websites etc I'm getting stuff from, just not here. Grrrr!
It does sound as if you need to try to do something about the PTR (whatever that is) as per Tims point 3 above?
PS after scrolling through all 12 pages of this thread it does show that this is quite a regular occurrence (at least since 2015 when I 1st flagged this up) and has subsequently been "fixed" somehow each time. As I say, this last instance started with my last notification email on 5-Mar so wonder what happened on or around that date to change things?
Just in case others are struggling with this (and as R@me$h knows), I'm suffering with this same old problem again & have rechecked that my ISP is not blocking this domain so, apart from him double-checking it's not a problem this end, then a) is anyone else suffering with this and b) can anyone suggest any proposed solutions please? :angry2:
Now resolved after a full rebuild of the server etc
