TTHome trying to force a navcore update?

Default TTHome trying to force a navcore update?

For those who use TTHome and SE navcores you will probably find that TTHome keeps trying to force you to take the latest official navcore for your device.

There are 2 ways of avoiding this. (see post 5 for alternative #3 too)

    1. Fool the TT server into believing you already have the current TTHome installed

To do this this you need to instal an older TTHome version that does not force navcore updates and trick it into thinking it's already the current version.

Install a previous version of TTHome - anything prior to 2.8.1.2218 will do. I recommend 2.8.0.2146 (direct link below) which is the last version just prior to the "nasty" ones.

After running the *.exe to install the version of TTHome, do NOT run it.

    Navigate to: C:\Program Files\TomTom HOME 2\xul

Using Notepad, Wordpad or another text editor, edit the file in xul called application.ini as follows:

In the line which reads 'Version=2.X.X.XXXX' (matching the version you have just installed), modify the number to read '2.9.8.3722' (the current version).

When your old version of TTHome runs, the version text '2.9.8.3722' will be compared to the most recently available version, and no update to TTHome will be offered (as it thinks it's already the latest version).

This will continue to work until the next version of TTHome is released. At that time you will need to follow this procedure again so just keep an eye out round here and note the new version number.

Direct download link for 2.8.0.2146 (the version just prior to the "nasty" ones) is:

If you're running Windows 7 premium see post #6 & replies below

    or

    2. Fool TTHome into believing you already have the latest navcore installed (example below is to fool it to believe you have the latest 9.430 navcore installed

Open the ttgo.bif file with Notepad.
    Replace lines 9 & 10 with these:
    ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9510
    ApplicationVersion=1234792.1

Save this change by clicking "File" in the upper left corner of windows explorer, then "Save as" ttgo.bak. At this point, there is only a ttgo.bak file in the root, no ttgo.bif.
Disconnect & reboot. Now you will have a ttgo.bak, a ttgo.bif & a ttgo.ori file in the root & no TT Home upgrade to Navcore 9.510

You might like to know that to save having to keep changing the application.ini file to the latest version, just do what I have and just change the first part to a higher number (ie 2 to 3) making it version 3.8.0.XXXX.
I you do a "check for Home updates" Home seems to just check if a later version is available and when it compares your version 3.8.0.XXXX it can't find a later version and states "you are currently using the latest version of TomTom Home: 3.8.0.2146. There is no newer version available".
This will save having to keep changing the file to the latest version (or at least for a few months/years).

Default Re TTHome trying to force a navcore update?

Just bought a laptop (Windows 7 premium), installed "safe" TTHome2 from above

Editing the 'application.ini' file gives 'Access to C:\Program Fles\TomTome HOME2\xul\application.ini was denied'

I am logged on as administrator AND know diddly-squat about Windows 7, I'm Windows XP.

How do I get TTHOME 'fixed'? I've read that Windows 7 Professional has the ability to run in XP mode, but it seems far too complicated for me.

TTHome trying to force a navcore update?
    it happens often
reason : is because program files is a Windows folder , and thus protected
sometimes it can also be solved by switching of UAC

    Fixed!

Had to turn off uac and re-boot and then change folder/file ownership, re-boot, give myself 'Full access', re-boot then Bob's your Gremlin fixed.

Googled 'turn off uac in windows 7' and 'change folder/file permissions in windows 7' - a pain but now I'm flying.

    Thanks all.

You must keep in mind, I have found this by myself , that:
    1. save and keep a copy of the original "%ProgramFiles%\TomTom HOME 2\xul\application.ini"
    2. if, for any reasons, you want to upgrade that old TTH with a current one you have to replace the modified file with the original before the upgrade, otherwise the TTH setup will not upgrade it with current data!!!
