    Default Advice request please

Hi all, I have a old TT GO700 that works fantastically well on SE 9.510 which makes it "think" its a GO940 and I've been updating the Europe_West maps from here with monotonous regularity .. We are shortly going on a longish holiday to Australia & New Zealand and I'll be taking the device to use in the hire cars.

I've downloaded and installed Australia 1000.8643 and all is good, however the "only" New Zealand map on the site that has a meta code is 1000.8644, which is from a range (on the compatability chart) that I've never used, out of choice I'd go for the NZ 1000.8643 but with no meta code its a non-starter.

My simple but long-winded question ... will NZ 1000.8644 actually work properly ?? I can't "test" it in advance and once in NZ it will be too late to do much about it as the software to install is on this system here in the UK !!

    Any ideas gratefully accepted ...

Yes, NZ 1000.8644 will be perfectly fine although it has the following features missing over the NZ 1000.8643 map (which I bet you won't use anyway)

ASR: Automatic Speech Recognition allows you to speak the city, street name and house number instead of entering the information via the touch screen. This requires your device to have a built-in microphone and to be using a computer voice.

Cspeech: These are the files contained within the map needed for ASR.

HNR: HNR is used in places where one post code is allocated to an entire town or village and not to an area or street in a town EG: Australia. In the UK, a given post code is allocated to say house numbers 1 to 39 and another from 39 to 59 so HNR is not applicable to find an individual house number.

What fredderf said is spot on.
We do actually normally get the "standard" NZ map meta but it's not around yet so plan b or c if you want/need these extras is to use the 995 version (how many new roads since the last release I wonder) or even buy the 1000.8643 map?

Many thanks for the very quick replies ... appreciate it ..

Go700 does not do ASR so the lack of ASR/Cspeech is not a problem, I doubt I'll be navigating to any specific house addresses other than my sons' place, and I have lat/lon for that, and he'll probably meet us at the airport as well !! so HNR won't really matter I hope.

Which points at the 8644 version being sufficient for the trip I hope !! Buying the latest map for a 3 week holiday, during which I won't be driving all the time, seems a tad OTT to me !! especially as my lad is pretty certain the hire car will come with satnav anyway.

It is the ability to put in Mavericks speed cameras is the reason I want the tomtom.... last to trip to Aus cost me best part of £150 in speeding fines, just the two in one day £75 each, one at one end of a motorway (Melbourne) the other some hours later at the other end ( on the way to Adelaide), both logging me at 115 kph on a 110 kph limited road. In Victoria there is only a 3 kph leeway given, as I found out to my cost, and the fines this year, for the same offence, exceeding by less than 10 kph, will be $194... for more between 10kph and 25 kph its $311, 25 kph to 30 kph its $428 .. above that it is just silly money !! (£1=AU$1.77) so speeding is expensive !!

My son tells me they are pretty strict in NZ as well..... If you are caught driving more than 10km/h over the limit, you can expect to be issued with an infringement notice. In some circumstances, you are liable to get a speeding ticket if you drive more than 4km/h over the limit........ so, hopefully with the tomtom and the speed cameras I "might" have a slightly cheaper time, fines wise anyhow !!

Yes, you are made very much aware of the Police presence in AU and they certainly like issuing fines...I've had a few of those myself

I once got a $100 fine for throwing a fag butt out of the window too...that one was a double bummer as I was driving the missus's car and was not supposed to be smoking in it, consequently she got the fine with photo evidence too...LOL

    * now waiting for the inevitable goodie two shoes posts
