mmm confused of Wiltshire, but is there a small glimmer of light ???

I run an original Go700 (M5), and through the skill and help from this forum and the odd purchase of bits from a well known auction site, have kept it going with the latest maps for a long time - and it works well as a simple satnav, few bells and whistles but it works. I saw that the Go700 is no longer to be updated maps wise, and thought for a moment that there would not be maps available on this wonderful site ..... then a small, but significant thought raised itself ..... a long time ago (several years) I changed the OS to one downloaded from here to enable me to use "your" maps ... that OS is: navcore SE 9.051.503855 ... which makes my Go700 "think" it is a Go940 .. which is not on the list of affected devices (yet) ....

So, am I right in thinking that, as long as kind "real" Go940 owners contribute "their" maps to the forum, along with the meta codes, then we old Go700 owners may still survive for a few years yet ??

As an aside, I find it a tad "odd" that so many forum members are complaining about TT not providing map updates to them .. when many will have "received" their updates for free from this forum !! (I do understand that those who have paid are, quite rightly, very annoyed, but freeloaders (like me ) have little to complain about really !!)

    1. Yes, all the time we can get maps then you can use them provided (subject to memory capacity) you have a good navcore (which you have) and the meta is available too. However, just because you have a patched navcore does not make TTHome, TTmapshop etc think you're a 940 so you won't be able to buy maps (even if you wanted to) as TTHome looks at the serial number which cannot be changed.
    2. Very true, many are having a good old moan although enjoying the "free" maps provided by original buyers and/or sponsors but, apart from Trump & Brexit, what else is there to whinge about?

Criticized is the way that TT pushes the devices out of the market. No honesty in communication. According to this justification of TT, a ONE without own memory could never have been sold (insufficent memory).
There are enough small maps for 2GB devices.
Why does an older Go 920 get these small maps (which it does not need), but a newer XL-IQ-Routes or Go 750 not (which would need these maps)? Is like lifebuoys for swimmers only...

How many of the units have SD Slots or Micro SD slots? So TT does not have a valid point about map updates etc REALLY It is just a ploy to get units replaced by newer units. Nothing wrong with the GO720 etc but it is apparently obsolete. Works fine for my mate when car sharing to avoid traffic jams or rather use another route. OK, it is not as sophisticated as mine, but my use is entirely different from his and my car has Nav on it. I use mine for the routes and traffic though and multiple pick ups and drop offs. That is where the TT comes into its own. I suppose other manufacturers do this, but I have never found any as good at route planning with live traffic

Well, for which devices are the lot of zone maps made by TT (smaller than 2 GB), if they aren't to buy? For the 4 or 8 GB devices who don't need them? I'm confused - not really

one would think that some may need them if want all the buildings Europe, but not enough room on the unit, without the capacity to have that, so they brake into smaller zones so that it covers most buildings in that zone, but roads elsewhere. Why not just add a memory card and not bother with zones at all. If you power up the unit and hold power button one, you will see how the memory is used. Get a memory card and load all of Europe onto it. Job done and no need for zones then. Simple as that. As Dave would say LMFAO LOL

Tomtom tells lies to kill nav2 devices. He does this only because of commercial interest. If world governments allow programmed obsolescence, these companies can do what they please with users.

Tell it TomTom, not me . You can't by an Europe map (or any smaller map) for a Go 750 with big memory card inside. This is the trick of TomTom: The Go750 and a lot of other devices are "out of order"
